Solta Island - Last Day 😢
A glorious morning, we set off early sailing to Solta Island, calm, smooth seas and a lovely sunrise. This is the last cycle ride on this trip.
3 Women, 3 bikes and a boat........ could get messy🤣🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️ I'm in Croatia for a weeks' holiday with 2 good friends, starting at Split and touring the Islands, cycling, eating, drinking and generally having a good time
It's all about the preparation 😎, what to pack, what to wear, what's the weather going to be like.....like a lot of people, travelling light isn't one of my usual achievements', so I started putting everything out that I would like to take and then narrowed it down significantly to what would fit in the suitcase 🤭🙈.
One fortunate or unfortunate situation occurred with a pair of cycle shoes, having not been worn recently a family of spiders had set up home in one of them 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️hundreds of baby spiders 😱 what's to do!
For anyone that knows me, I am a strong believer that you can never have too many pairs of shoes.
The local bike shop had the perfect, totally impractical pair of White MTB shoes (a must have really) I mean who ever buys white shoes for cycling in mud!! So the spiders have a home for another week or 2 and I have new lovely white cycle shoes.
So we just need to get to the airport for a nice early flight from Gatwick. It would seem that for all of us packing light has been a challenge 🤦♀️
Day 6 - Thunderstorms ⛈️ & Rain 🌧️
Thursday and we are staying put in Stari Grad. The thunderstorms over night & torrential rain this morning have meant all plans are cancelled & due to rough seas we are not going anywhere. A very gray, miserable, wet sort of day 😢 A few boats came and went but generally it seemed everyone was staying put and not going anywhere. We are in a large inland port, so although it is raining (and hasn't stopped) we are protected from the wind.
Day 5 - Vela Luka to Hvar & Stari Grad
Apparently it was ok to sail this morning, so the bikes were loaded onto the boat and off we went to Hvar. 🚴♀️😊👍
Day 4 - Korcula History, E-bikes & Gravel
Having arrived in Korcula yesterday after lunch, the weather was glorious so we all took a ride to the beach. Beautifully clear water and a lovely sandy beach 🏖️ - perfect 👌 we rode back to the ship left the bikes & had a guided walking tour of the Old Town. The Croatians claim that Marco Polo was born here, the Venetians would tell a different story! Apparently there is no birth certificate so no one actually knows, however he is buried in Venice.

Day 2 - Stormy Seas
This morning 🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️ we were woken at 6 am by the church bells, a full 2 minutes of ringing with 6 loud clangs for the hour 🔔 it's a lovely sound.

Having flown from Gatwick at some stupid o'clock hour, we arrived in Split and joined our Boat. Our guide is an interesting chap, very expansive with his language, after all why use 5 words when 42 will suffice 🤦♀️ saying that his level of detail & knowledge is impressive.
