I suppose it had to happen sooner or later, yesterday 1 person got lost, after lunch they missed a turn & ended up nearer Vila Vicosa than Mouro π. Funny, not funny, we've all done it.....fortunately he realised after about 15/20 miles and had to be picked up πππ. Obvs no one mentioned it at all during the evening π€₯π€₯π€.
Nigel from Australia π¦πΊ, with whom I have been cycling most of this week, has his birthday today. G'day mate, have a great birthday π.
Mouro is a lovely little town. Miguel Garcia came from here (apparently a famous footballer, I know didly squat about football) he had 228 club caps - that sounds quite a lot π€·βοΈ.
It is home to the Mouro Photovoltaic Power Station, which is one of the largest in Europe!
It is twinned with a number of towns around the world & specifically Mouro in Australia π¦πΊ.
Like every other town around here it has cobbled streets! They make you go slowly (bikes & cars) they shake your bones 𦴠, rattle your teeth 𦷠and anything slightly loose on your bike is likely to drop off!
Our hotel last night was typical of the region & painted white with blue windows & doors. It was a beautiful old building with some lovely features & with a great staircase in the entrance lobby.
Today is our penultimate day π’ the time has gone so quickly. The rain at the start has long been forgotten. This morning we bumbled along the cobbles out of town heading for Mertola. 66.66 miles (107 kms) & 2,887 ft (880 m) of elevation, so a relatively "easy" day. The world according to Garmin made it 4 climbs for the day, ππ.
We have been into and out of Spain again today, so all the gadgets changed time zones repeatedly. Getting to lunch was challenging with a brutal headwind. The roads after lunch were lumpy to say the least, trying to find a smooth bit of road was difficult. After lunch a crosswind was gusting, so for me a proper white knuckle ride coming down & round the hairpin bends on side of the hill. If I didn't need new brake pads before, I probably will now.
Sometimes, we have come across things that appear to us to be very random, I'm sure they are not.....however, today we came across what appeared to be a race track being constructed in the middle of nowhere - apparently at Vila Verde de Ficalho. It looks like a fab circuit with a really smooth surface.
Mertola, our destination, is unsurprisingly at the top of a hill. I would be disappointed if it wasn't really π. It appears to have a castle, so I'll find out about it later.
My room has 2 balconies - lovely π₯°. So I'm off to shower, decide which balcony has the sun & best view π. I'll explore the town & get ready for our last day tomorrow. The following 2 pics are from room with a view π₯°, what's not to like.
Thank you for reading, have a lovely evening & I'll see you tomorrow xx

Oh my oh my. I keep waking Indy up as I laugh out loud so much at your bloggs. You really need to write a book. Once again you have captured the day so vividly. Iβm slightly concerned you can go for 15 miles before knowing you are lost π€¨ Enjoy the final soirΓ©e tomorrow and I do hope you came to a decision regarding the balcony π€£
The balcony was a tough choice π€£
