35 Miles (56 km) ascent 2600 ft (794 m)
"The Way of the Roses" Morecambe to Bridlington over 4 days with some good friends π Lucy, Tracy & Rodney Rather than keep our noses to the tarmac and do it in 2 or 3 days, we decided to take our time and enjoy the views, the food, some of the smaller towns and villages we would probably never go to through if we were in the car π.
It's going to be an interesting few days, the weather forecast is set to be very windy π¬οΈ fortunately it's a West to East wind, so with any luck it stays that way & we get blown most of the way π΄βοΈπ.
Today is a fairly short ride, the route starts on the Promenade at Morecambe Bay, in theory you should dip your back wheel in the Sea when you start, well maybe not.....π€£ the tide was out for what appeared to be miles & with what felt like a force 9 gale blowing in, so the obligatory photo was by the sign π & off we went π΄βοΈπ΄βοΈπ΄βοΈπ΄βοΈ
The first 7 or 8 miles were on a bike path followed by some beautiful lanes & views, a few "undulations" the countryside is stunning. There were quite a mix of people on the bike path, including people carrying canoes πΆ which you don't see everyday π€·βοΈ. 14 miles in we stopped for coffee & at 29 miles lunch in Austwick, warm flatbreads delicious ππ.
The ride to Giggleswick (what a lovely name π₯°) after lunch could best be described as ummm blowy π¬οΈπ¬οΈπ¬οΈ and slightly damp. The route though is beautiful and we went past some amazing scenery, it's difficult to describe how lovely it is. We've arrived at our hotel, so a hot shower, some clean clothes and recovery ahead of the hills tomorrow π±
Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow π΄βοΈπ΄βοΈπ΄βοΈπ΄βοΈπ΄βοΈ π & fingers crossed π€ for a continued favourable wind & some warm summer sunshine would also be very welcome π€
