Monsanto is an amazing place. If you are ever in Portugal & get the chance to go, do it. I would recommend a pair of walking shoes & leave your bike towards the bottom of the hill! (Can't believe I've just said that π€£π€£) I've put a selection of the photos at the bottom of the blog. Simply stunning place!
Day 6 already! We have a short day today with 39 miles (62km) and 2,300 feet (700 Metres) of ascent. PT tell us it's an easy day to give the legs a rest ππ. Garmin has been nice today only 7 climbs, all graded as either "Easy" or Category 4 (so slightly harder but not difficult).....I am starting to wonder if anyone from Garmin has actually ridden up these hills (or mountains) and if they have, would they still class them as "easy"
Brew stop, Peak Tours style - (mid morning coffee stop) always a pleasure & never disappoints ππ
One of the great things about these sorts of holidays are the people, this week I've cycled with people from a number of countries:- Australia, Canada, Scotland the UK, I've also spent time on my own. You have to go at your own pace (especially on the hills), but at the end of the day you are meeting up with like minded people & not having to eat on your own if you don't want to.
Wow, what a day, perfect weather, βοΈ (not too hot), no wind, flat easy roads π₯°. I was riding with Nigel again today, we took it easy, it's a rest day before we ramp up again tomorrow. We have headed into Spain & are staying in a small village called Alcantara, just over the border. A superb place & one I'm looking forward to checking out. My Garmin, watch & phone have all changed to Spanish time so I've lost an hour today & will get it back tomorrow. The Portuguese/Spanish border was an easy one to navigate - cross the bridge & a different country, different language, different times ππ
I'm off to have a shower, do some washing & explore Alcantara π Enjoy the photos of Monsanto, have a fab evening wherever you are & thank you for reading.

Ana, the weather has changed to blue sky & warm sunshine which is lovely. Alcantara is a lovely quiet town. Tomorrow we are back in Portugal π
Stunning photos Wendy thanks so much for sharing - I just want to get in the chariot & go! Maybe you need to teach me to ride my own bike!
Have a wonderful time!
lolβ¦.i donβt think you need me to teach you how to ride your own bike. Youβll have to get Richard to take you out xx
Iβm glad youβve finally got the weather- and a rest for your legs. Looks and sounds amazing. You are giving me inspiration to do something like this- although with far less hills π
You would be great at something like this, start small and work your way up - everyone has to start somewhere (a bit like sailing) π
What, no rain....?! Are you on the right ride?
Fingers crossed for tomorrow- I like the blue sky & sunshine βοΈ π
No - even with the fantastic food ,you are still not selling it to me.
Alternatively we spent today sightseeing with pizza and beer in a very sunny warm Rome !
Have a fab time in Rome, the evening e-bike tours are excellent- you could give them a try π΄ββοΈπ΄ββοΈππ
The photos look great and amazing views! What a difference the sun makes and blue sky!
So glad you have some nice weather now - must have been a challenge particularly on the cobbled streets and uneven paths.
It sounds like you are having a great time and sharing it with people with whom you share a passion and interests; cycling!
Looking forward to tomorrow blog! π€ no rain π€ no mist π€£ no wild dogs! π€£π€£
Enjoy π· enjoy π₯
Thanks Sean, Iβm loving the sun & the blue skies π.
The cobbles are a pain but very Portuguese π΅πΉ. The wild dogs were a bit of a shock at first, Iβm getting good at getting my water bottle out to squirt them although my aim isnβt very good π
Love your blog Wendy and your photos - I can feel the sunshine and enjoy every minute of your trip - from the comfort of my sofa! But yes I am a teeny bit envious - what a great thing to do! ππ»
