So my 2nd Audax was called "Charnwood in the Spring"
It was such a cold morning (approx 5o) so getting out of bed and heading up the motorway to Trowell Village Hall to cycle 107 km (approx 66 miles) with 2500 ft of ascent (766m) wasn't an exciting prospect. The effort was well worth the welcome at Trowell, big smiles, hot coffee and biscuits available when checking in.
We had 5 checkpoints as well at the check-ins at the start and End.
On my 1st Audax I met Kev, he was also on this Audax, so we cycled together again, I owe him a big thank you for keeping me going on such a cold day π₯Άπ
The people who were sat in the cold at the checkpoints waiting to stamp our cards, deserve a huge round of applause, that cannot have been easy, I have no idea if they will ever read this, but if they do a big thankyouππ
The 1st Checkpoint was at Stonehurst Farm, where a number of local Community Support Policemen were offering to do free registrations of our bikes. It only took a couple minutes and although I hope my bike never gets stolen, it's good to know if it does and is ever recovered they can identify who it belongs to. π
A sausage bap & coffee was delicious and very welcome. π. We carried on and went through the next 4 checkpoints, finding out which animal was on the sign at a pub, how far it was to Great Dalby, which bus stopped at a bus stop.
Charnwood is a beautiful part of Leicestershire and well worth cycling through. The route was interesting, according to my Garmin we had 2 climbs, I have no idea how they reach their conclusions, but some of the ascent today was definitely climbing π²
Some of the Lanes were beautiful and quite quiet, although some of the roads were very busy with a lot of traffic and large trucks/lorries π¬
The end of the ride back at the Village Hall in Trowell was exceptional. The effort that had gone into the food was unexpected and superb. Fresh cheese or ham rolls, very welcome hot tea/coffee, and a vast array of cakes, (see photo below). What to choose was tough...Lemon drizzle, chocolate cup cakes, strawberry cupcakes, fruit cake .. to name just a few. They tasted as good as they looked π°π§ Magnificent THANK YOU. A great end to a good day.
Thank you for reading this and thank you to the people who organised today, I really enjoyed it.

Looks like a great day out. Well done!
Thank you π
Nice little write up - always an excellent event but it was a cold one yesterday.
I've a picture of the food at the end somewhere!
Thank you, definitely one for the calendar for next year
Nice write up that captured the day perfectly. My second audax too, and an event that's in my calendar for next year already.
Thank you, I'll definitely do next years & the September event supporting the Air Ambulance as well.
